Jabboratory is a partner collective to JoinJabber aiming to develop the XMPP protocol and the wider Jabber network in an inclusive and participatory way.
Some of the stuff we do are:
- Work on making the culture of Jabber network safer and more diverse.
- Encourage, include and help people get involved with developing the XMPP protocol and its implementations regardless of their technical knowledge. We give platform and strive to make our spaces safe to marginalized people and minorities. We alleviate any roadblocks, hierarchies or structural problems to enable people's self-determination.
- Develop XMPP protocol specifications (called XCSPs), UI/UX guidelines and documentation for XMPP Implementations to use.
- We recognize as our collective responsibility to help new XMPP implementations and remove roadblocks for new implementations to happen. We offer support to new XMPP implementations (material and social) and setup mutual aid networks between all implementations.
- Advocate and help XMPP/Jabber communities to adopt the Cooperative Development Guidelines to empower everybody, no matter their technical ability, to change things and have a say in how their community or software is developed.
We celebrate the diversity of protocols and approaches that people use to communicate. XMPP is one of many solutions and we aim to make XMPP works for us and collaborate with other communities/protocols to help each other thrive.
